May 2012

The six-year-old, award-winning Made in Michigan Writers Series from Wayne State University Press has been awarded a generous five-year grant from the Meijer Foundation.

Minnesota Historical Society Press has been honored with a MUSE Award for outstanding achievement in museum media from the American Association of Museums for the MNopedia project.

March 2012

Utah State University Press has been acquired by the University Press of Colorado. USU becomes the ninth member of the UPC consortium and the USU Press imprint will be maintained.

January 2012

• AAUP welcomes Abilene Christian University Press as a full member of the Association. ACU Press has been an introductory member since 2008.

November 2011

Johns Hopkins University Press has been awarded a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to study the impact of "patron-driven acquisitions" on scholarly publishing. JHUP will work with Cornell University Libraries on the study.

• AAUP is pleased to welcome two new introductory members: the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, a leading resource for key issues concerning the use, regulation, and taxation of land; and Medieval Institute Publications, based at Western Michigan University.

October 2011

• AAUP welcomes the University of Rochester Press as a full member of the Association. Rochester has been an introductory member since 2008.

September 2011

• The University of Nebraska Press has entered into a collaborative publishing agreement with the Jewish Publication Society and will, as of January 1, 2012, handle production and distribution of all new JPS projects, in addition to warehousing their backlist. Read the full release here.

• The University Press of Florida's exciting partnership with the Orange Grove Repository, Orange Grove Texts Plus, has been awarded a 2011 NUTN Distance Education Innovation Award.

July 2011

• AAUP welcomes the University of Manitoba Press as a full member of the Association.

• As of July 1, The University of Chicago Press is handling all marketing and distribution worldwide for Northern Illinois University Press.

• The state government shutdown in Minnesota has resulted in the temporary shutdown of the Minnesota Historical Society Press. Though the Press receives less than 20% of its annual budget from the state, more than half of the MH Society budget comes from the state and has thus been required to close until a budget agreement is reached. Fulfillment and sales of MHS and Borealis books are handled offsite and continue through the shutdown.

June 2011

• AAUP is pleased to announce the addition of a new introductory member to the Association: Saint Joseph's University Press of Philadelphia.

Athabasca University Press, an introductory member for several years, has been accepted as a full member.

May 2011

Howard University Press has closed, marking the end of 39 years of distinguished scholarly publishing. The Press was founded in 1972, and became a member of AAUP in 1979, maintaining that membership until the suspension of publishing activities in recent years. Black Classic Press has acquired approximately half of the HUP backlist, which will be kept in print in new editions. Read a PW article on this news >

• We are relieved to share the news that the staff of the University of Alabama Press are all safe after the tornadoes that devastated Tuscaloosa in April, though the community has much to mourn, and to rebuild. The press returned to normal operations on May 2.

April 2011

AAUP is pleased to announce our newest member: IMF Publications. The publishing arm of the International Monetary Fund recently was accepted as an associate member. Their publications include books, statistical data, occasional papers, and more in the fields of economics, finance, and globalization.

March 2011

Staff at the United Nations University Press, located in Tokyo, report that they are all safe after the earthquake and tsunami that struck on March 11. No reports, of damage or not, have been heard yet from the University of Tokyo Press.

February 2011

 The American University in Cairo Press, with offices directly on Tahrir Square, has had front row seats on the demonstrations that overthrew Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak. Staff of the Press and their families are all safe, although the offices sustained some damage from security forces. AUCP sent out bulletins from Tahrir as events in Cairo unfolded.
