AAUP Executive Director
Peter Givler
Peter Givler has been Executive Director of AAUP since 1997; before that he was Director of the Ohio State University Press for ten years. Givler is currently President of the International Federation of Scholarly Publishers, and Chair of the Copyright Committee of the International Publishers Association (IPA). He also sits on the Executive Committee of the IPA.
He is a member of the US Department of Education's Advisory Commission on Accessible Instructional Materials in Postsecondary Education for Students with Disabilities, and was also appointed to the Library of Congress's Section 108 Study Group, whose report was published in 2008.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Book Industry Study Group, and has served on the Boards of AAUP and the Association of American Publishers; he is a member of the Editorial Board of Publishing Research Quarterly, and has served on the Advisory Boards of Louisiana State University Press, the Caravan Project, TORCH (Oxford University Press), and BiblioVault (University of Chicago Press).
Givler has delivered talks at the meetings of a variety of publishing and professional organizations, both domestically and internationally. His articles about publishing have appeared in, among others, the Chronicle of Higher Education, VLS, Academe, and Publishing Research Quarterly.
