Getting to New Orleans

Air Travel

The Louis Armstrong International airport is currently being served by the following airlines:
AirTran, American, Continental, Delta, Jet Blue, Northwest, Southwest, TED, United and US Airways. Direct flights to New Orleans are available from several major cities, and the number of flights in and out of the airport is increasing steadily. For additional information, visit www.flymsy.com.

Train and Bus Travel

Three Amtrak lines stop in New Orleans. The City of New Orleans line offers service between Chicago and New Orleans. The Crescent line originates in New York City and terminates in New Orleans. The Sunset Unlimited currently runs between Los Angeles and New Orleans. For detailed routes and schedule information, please visit www.amtrak.com.

Greyhound also provides service to New Orleans. For schedules, visit www.greyhound.com

The bus and train both arrive at Union Passenger Terminal at 1001 Loyola Avenue

Driving Directions

The Sheraton New Orleans is located at 500 Canal Street on the corner of Camp Street. Driving directions and a map are available on the Sheraton’s Web site.

Ground Transportation to Hotel

Registrants use one of following options to get to the Sheraton from the airport.

Taxi

A cab ride costs $28.00 from the airport to the Central Business District (CBD) for one or two persons and $12.00 (per passenger) for three or more passengers.  Pick-up is on the lower level, outside the baggage claim area. There may be an additional charge for extra baggage. Travel is about thirty minutes.

Airport shuttle

Shuttle service is available from the airport to the hotel for $13.00 (per person, one-way), $26.00 (per person, round-trip), or $24.00 (per person, round-trip for two or more people when purchased at the airport). Call (866) 596-2699 or (504) 522-3500 for more details or to make a reservation. Tickets can be purchased at the airport or online. Advance reservations are required 48 hours prior to travel for all ADA accessible transfers.

You should allow about one hour for travel between the airport and the hotel on the shuttle.

Airport Limousine Service:

Non scheduled walk up limousine and sedan service is available from the airport to the Central Business District. The rate is $35.00 for one or two people and $10.00 per additional passenger for up to 8 passengers.  Limousine information desks are located on the lower level baggage claim areas.

Parking

Valet parking is available at the Sheraton for $28 overnight. Parking for up to 2 hours is $8.00, and 2 to 9 hours is $14.

Getting Around New Orleans

Registrants can walk to most restaurants and shopping within the French Quarter and Central Business District.

The city’s public bus and streetcar system was affected by Hurricane Katrina, and service to many areas is still limited. The Canal and Riverfront Streetcar lines resumed service in December, so registrants can use the streetcars to get as far as the French Market. The streetcars currently in use on this line are not accessible to the disabled and probably not air-conditioned. For more information, visit www.norta.com.

Taxis are also available. United Cabs (504/522-9771) is one recommended company.

Health and Safety in New Orleans

Water and air quality in downtown New Orleans is safe for visitors. Several hospitals and clinics have reopened in the city, and the police and fire departments are operating. The Convention and Visitors Bureau has compiled a list of emergency facilities on its Web site.
