Research into the publishing industry, scholarly communications, and higher education is highly relevant to the AAUP community. The Association conducts, hosts, supports or contributes to many such efforts.

Environmental Benchmarking for the Book Industry
In 2007, the Green Press Initiative and the Book Industry Study Group undertook a benchmarking survey of the environmental impact of the North American book publishing industry. This resulted in the founding of the Book Industry Environmental Council, which is tasked with tracking industry progress in this area.
